I am excited to work with a wide variety of students. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching a wide diversity of ethnic groups, first in my home country of the United States, then at Kyushu University. Multi-ethnic classrooms make for exciting learning experiences, drawing on a wide variety of experiences and perspectives. I teach in both English and Japanese. I first came to Japan at age 19, and began my study of Japan and its East Asian neighbors. My specialty is 20th century colonial history, especially education in colonial Korea and occupied Northeastern China in 1905-1945.
