Physical Geography, Geomorphology

Researcher Information

Message for high school students

Based on physical geography, my research focuses on the coastal seafloor geomorphology of coral reefs and other areas, as well as the history of their formation and environmental transitions. The main regions on which my studies focus are the Ryukyu Archipelago (Okinawa and southern Kagoshima Prefecture), the islands of the Pacific and Indian oceans, and Australia. I work on initiatives aimed at promoting a comprehensive understanding of the environment through sea-themed interdisciplinary research, covering areas from natural science to humanities and the social sciences. For further details, please visit my web page (http://scs.kyushu-u.ac.jp/kan). I’m looking forward to tackling global environmental issues and furthering my research with our new entrants.
