ISI online short-term program/COIL “Food: Health, Technology and Environment” Mar.8,2023

School of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation (ISI) online short-term program /I-COIL " Food: Health, Technology and Environment " was held for 9 days from Wednesday, October 19, 2022 to Wednesday, November 30, 2022. This program was held by Assistant Prof. Yik Hei Sung(Lingnan University, Hong Kong), Associate Prof. Ik-Joon Kang (ISI), and Prof. Kentaro Yoshida (ISI).

The course aims to provide students a comprehensive overview of scientific principles and issues related to food production and consumption by combining knowledge from multiple disciplines, including food, environmental, public health and social sciences. Upon completion of the course, students should be able to critically discuss the concepts and apply the knowledge to make healthy and sustainable choices of food.

A total of 46 students, 35 from Lingnan Unversity and 11 from Kyushu University, participated in the program. After lectures by Assistant Prof. Yik Hei Sung, and Associate Prof. Ik-Joon Kang and Prof. Kentaro Yoshida, groups of students were formed for group work and presented final presentations in English. The presentations covered a wide range of topics from food labeling counterfeiting to entomophagy, and the participants seemed to learn a lot about the differences between the two countries. The program seemed to have been very fruitful for the both universities’ students.
