Visit of University of Glasgow delegation to ISI Jun.30,2023

On Friday, June 2, 2023, we had the pleasure of hosting a delegation from the University of Glasgow, including Prof. Konstantinos Kontis (Dean for Global Engagement), Dr. Bethan Wood (Senior Lecturer, School of Interdisciplinary Studies), and Dr. Steven Gillespie (Senior Lecturer, School of Interdisciplinary Studies).

The University of Glasgow is a partner institution under the academic exchange agreement with Kyushu University, and ISI has a student exchange agreement with their School of Interdisciplinary Studies. This visit, organized primarily by Prof. Johan Lauwereyns, Vice-Dean of ISI, aimed to further promote student exchange and educational collaboration between the two institutions, as well as explore the possibility of establishing a joint degree program.

During the exchange of ideas, representatives from the University of Glasgow provided an overview of their faculty's unique features and curriculum. Subsequently, there were question-and-answer sessions involving Prof. Masahiko Kaburagi (Dean of ISI), Prof. Takeshi Onimaru (Vice-Dean of ISI), Prof. Lauwereyns, Prof. Kunio Araya, and Professor Emeritus Masahiro Okamoto. ISI also presented an introduction to their programs, fostering mutual understanding.

After enjoying local cuisine together at a restaurant near the Ito Campus, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to Executive Vice President/Senior Vice President, Prof. Yoshimi Sonoda and Prof. Kenji Iwata. Following that, a campus tour led by Prof. Lauwereyns took place, and the delegation left the Ito Campus.

In the future, ISI plans to further enhance the relationship with the University of Glasgow through initiatives such as COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning).
