Dr. Doris Lindner from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz Visits the School of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation Sep.30,2026

From 21 to 25 September 2026, Dr Doris Lindner, Head of the Q+ Programme – an interdisciplinary supplementary certificate program at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Germany), one of our partner universities – visited Fukuoka and the School of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation (ISI).

In particular, Dr Lindner and Professor Jan Lauwereyns, former Senior Vice-President for International Affairs and the main point of contact for the partnership between ISI and Q+, discussed their experiences to date and future collaboration. Both expressed great confidence in their ability to further expand the partnership, which has been successful so far.

Dr Lindner also spoke with Miguel Murray, a student representative from ISI, about student life, experiences with the joint COIL formats between Q+ and ISI, further ideas for student exchanges and future career paths. Together, they visited ‘Shima no Shiki’ and ‘Suginoya (Hamachi Brewery)’, where they gained an insight into the region’s local food culture.

Dr Lindner also took an in-depth tour of the Kyushu University campus, including seminar rooms, the library, the canteen and student halls of residence.

Following an in-depth discussion with Prof. Natalie Konom, former Vice-President for Academic Affairs, and representatives from the International Office, she took part in the ‘Europe Asia-Pacific Undergraduate Research Symposium’, organized by Professor Johan Lauwereyns in collaboration with Q+, the University of Canberra and the University of Adelaide.

Dr Lindner also met with five professors from the ISI and five representatives from the International Office for discussions on potential collaborations between the Q+ program at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the ISI program at our university. Everyone agreed on the value of student exchanges between the two programs and discussed opportunities for the further development of joint courses and student mobility.

This visit further strengthened mutual understanding between the two universities, and a continuous expansion of academic cooperation and student exchanges is expected in the future.
