ISI online short-term program//I-COIL Sustainable Development in East Asia Sep.2,2022

ISI online short-term program /I-COIL "Sustainability in East Asia" was held for four days from Monday, August 22 to Thursday, August 25, 2022. This program was organized by Associate Professor Yuichiro Fujioka (ISI) in collaboration with Associate Professor Mucahid Mustafa Bayrak (National Taiwan Normal University/NTNU).

The program aims to understand the challenges that threaten sustainable development in East Asia, as well as the concepts and theoretical frameworks of sustainable development. A total of 28 students, 12 from NTNU and 16 from Kyushu University, participated in the program. After lectures by Associate Professor Fujioka and Associate Professor Mucahid, six mixed groups of students from both universities were formed for group work and a final presentation.

The students communicated with each other in English, their second language, and deepened their learning and exchange. A student commented “we enjoyed as each group presented interesting solutions on various topics”, and other student also commented, "It was a very good experience for me as I have only had the opportunity to speak with people from other countries in English classes." It seems to be a very fruitful program.
